History
Welcome to the Mill House Restaurant
The Mill House Restaurant formerly known as the Fiesta Restaurant was built in 1947 and opened for business in 1948. It was owned by Charles and Butch Gutzweiler and was established as a family restaurant and neighborhood bar. The house specialty was barbecue, which remains a specialty even today.
In 1976, the restaurant was sold to my parents, Tom and Ruth Flick. Like the Gutzweilers, my parents ran it as a family business. After managing the restaurant for several years, I became the sole owner of the establishment in 1994. To this day my parents remain active in the daily operations. My mother makes soups and all of our desserts are homemade. My father oversees the bar operations.
In December of 1994, I began reconstruction on both the interior and exterior of the restaurant. The project was completed in 1995 and produced an additional dining area, which increased our seating capacity from 68 to 108. A second floor was also created for private parties and special events. Our Banquet Room seats 40.
As times changed, so did the restaurant. In 2000 I changed the name to The Mill House. Keeping up with the times, our menu changed to a more casual theme but our values remain the same as it did when my parents owned it. Being an independent operation, it often allows us to do may differnt menu items.
I graduated from culinary school and went on to receive my certification as a Chef and an Executive Chef. I have studied in France on two different occasions, bringing back new and different ideas to the Dubois County area. I frequently offer cooking classes and wine tasting classes that the public is invited to attend.
I appreciate the many years that the area has allowed The Mill House to be their choice. I look forward to serving my guests for many years.
Thanks,
